Importing misogyny

The international outrage over the brutal gang rape of a young woman in Delhi exposes some deep-seated and undesirable attitudes in Indian culture. Here's an analysis entitled, Why India Is So Damn Violent:

But in a country with an abysmally low rate of convictions for rape and other crimes against women, (26% last year, down from 46% in the 1970s) it seems to me pointless to fixate on ratcheting up the penalty further. Consider that out of 635 cases of rape reported in Delhi this past year only one has led to a conviction.

What’s more, an exclusive focus on the crime of rape also obscures the fact that India’s a violent place for men as it is for women and children. Let’s not forget that the male companion of the young woman who died was himself beaten and badly injured.

As pointed out by economist Swaminathan Aiyar, Bollywood films are replete with scenes characterized by the harassment of women and even of rape. As he writes, one particular well-known screen villain did about 100 rape scenes “with the audience almost cheering him on.”
The BBC's report on this horrendous crime reinforces the view that the brutal treatment of women in India is widespread and accepted as normal:

Female foetuses are aborted and baby girls killed after birth, leading to an an appallingly skewed sex ratio. Many of those who survive face discrimination, prejudice, violence and neglect all their lives, as single or married women.

TrustLaw, a news service run by Thomson Reuters, has ranked India as the worst country in which to be a woman.
It's enough to make you wonder if the leftists who are so gaga about Third-World immigration have really considered the cultural practices they're importing.

Perhaps we need a little more of General Sir Charles Napier's version of 'cultural exchange.'

The more immigrants who hold alien and immoral values will always be better for the denizens of D.C. They get to impose more government programs to lecture those of us who were raised to respect women and live responsibly. Of course all the work-groups, public awareness campaigns, and departments have highly paid appointees to manage them. Naturally the taxpayers are on the hook to pay for the problems they didn't create and the solutions they don't need.

I agree with Slim. The DC regime loves to displace Americans. I am sick of the mantra that "we are all immigrants." This country would not be what it is if it had been settled by Arabs, Indians, etc.
